While exhibiting our fine furniture at the Fall festival at the Farmer's Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y., we met Jim & Kate. That year we decided to take the cherry & tiger maple island out of our showroom kitchen. They were impressed with our workmanship and our ability to build completely to order. Jim & Kate were in the process of restoring their home, and were working with a contractor. Kate designed just about every detail of this kitchen. She and the contractor pretty much had a game plan in place when we were asked to build the cabinetry. After we ironed out a few details and structural concerns, we were ready to build a beautiful set of Shaker cabinets.

At Delnero Custom Kitchens, we can help you design a kitchen that works best for your lifestyle and needs. We are also willing to work with your Architect or Designer. A shot of the double gas stove and ovens, microwave upper cabinet, and custom cherry hood. The way the lower cabinets worked out, there was a small bit of space between the stove and the corner. Instead of just wasting it, we came up with some ideas, one of which was building a pull out spice rack behind the door. The small drawer above it holds knives.

In the center of this classic kitchen, sets a large island that measured 84" long x 60" wide. Kate originally wanted to do a table in this space, but also wanted more storage and a counter top of granite to cook on. We decided to do a two-tone island, using black walnut on the legs & skirt boards that gives the outline of the table she wanted. One side of the island has an area to sit at, while the other adds 35 additional cubic feet of storage. We built one of the walnut legs with a channel to run electrical wiring up the inside, seamlessly from the cellar.

Kate had also asked if we could pick up any design from the home, as much was lost in previous owners attempts at remodeling. In the first walk through of their home we noticed an original newel post on the front staircase. We also found some inspiration in the windows of two little doghouse dormers up in the attic. We used the design of the top section of the newel post for the bottom section of the island legs. We also incorporated the arches from the dormers into the leaded glass doors of an upper kitchen cabinet.

In these shots of the leaded glass upper cabinet doors, and the attic dormer window, note the upper arch, as well as the smaller ones in the lower corners and the vertical center line.

Here is a shot of a pantry cabinet with classic clean Shaker lines. Behind the two pair of doors you'll find adjustable shelving and roll outs.

In the styles of Shaker and Colonial cabinets, we often use legs and arches instead of modern looking toe kicks. The effect results in cabinetry that looks like pieces of furniture.

This bank of cabinets has a dishwasher right next to the sink, and then a set of recycling bins.

The counter tops on all the cabinets were made of Blue Stone, and the island top was granite.
